Pleasantly situated in downtown Los Angeles, Union Station serves travelers going near or far. Connections include long distance and intercity rail, Southern California regional rail and local and urban light rail within Los Angeles County. Bus services surround the area immediately adjacent to Union Station, providing access to the station or connecting train travelers to every corner of the county.
The Union-Patsaouras project is a new transit busway station for the Metro Silver Line and other transit buses operating on the El Monte Busway. The design routes it to the south of the Patsaouras Transit Plaza in the median of the El Monte Busway next to the freeway. The new busway station will allow buses travelling in both directions to serve the Union Station with a minimum of delay for passengers in route to other destinations.
Benefits to the community
- When completed, the pedestrian bridge will allow passengers to walk directly from the Patsaouras Transit Plaza to the new and improved busway station, eliminating a long, convoluted walk across the Union Station property to the current stop located on the El Monte Busway, at Alameda Avenue
- New lighting and closed circuit TV systems (CCTV) provide commuters a safer passage through the Union-Patsaouras Plaza during darker times of the day and night
- New bus, light rail, and train connections will be added to this transportation hub to increase availability and access that will promote stress free, safe, and convenient commuting
