Safety in the workplace: OHL's highest priority
Safety and access to continuing professional education in this area are high on OHL USA’s list of priorities in the personnel management area. In addition, the company has a zero accident policy and mechanisms to promote health and safety in the workplace.
The safety policy of OHL USA is based on the OHL Group’s Declaration of Safety, Quality and the Environment. There is also an occupational health and safety (OHS) management component to the Project Management Professional (PMP) program and OSHAS 18001 certification, an international standard that sets the requirements for developing on-the-job health and safety management systems to control risks in the workplace.
At present, more than 80% of OHL employees work in environments that are Health and Safety (H&S) certified.
Safety as part of the production process
Safety training and a corporate culture that fosters health and safety in the workplace are crucial to achieving the goal of zero accidents.
OHL USA has incorporated safety into the production process through training initiatives that are supplemental to those offered on a regular basis. These are in-person sessions held on a weekly basis to comply with the H&S laws in the countries where OHL does business.
Providing the firm's employees and subcontractors safe and secure environments and eliminating the risk of accidents are priority objectives for OHL USA.
